Make My Day! is a celebration of creativity that encourages co-operation and immersive involvement in family-friendly artistic activities. The event hosts a welcoming programme of imaginative creative workshops. It is open, fun and welcoming to all those who come along to take part.
Make My Day! Morecambe took place on Sun 6 August 2017 – delivering an inspiring programme of creative activities enjoyed by young and old alike.
We ran workshops that included; sculpture making with recycled wood, spray painting placards, mini-boat collaging, a giant paint-by-numbers, large-scale collaborative collaging, junk animal mask-making, papercut animation making and Van Dyke photography printing.
Leading up to the event a series of paper cut animation making sessions were held, led by artist Hannah Fox. The delightful community-created films made in these workshops were screened on the day in ‘The Rusty Roxy’ – a beautiful pop-up cinema created and built by Hannah.
The creative activities were complimented by a wonderful, eclectic line up of acoustic music, dance and walk-about daftness including a troupe of Lancashire Cloggers, an Oompah Band, a Chinese flute orchestra, a sea shanty choir and a larger-than-life Punch & Judy.
‘Jelly’ a specially commissioned, new dance work choreographed by Jenny Reeves with exquisite costumes designed and made by Katie Duxbury made it’s debut at
Make My Day! Beautiful sea creatures shimmered around throughout the afternoon trailing bubbles of happiness behind them along the way.
Another major commission undertaken for the festival was the design and production of the “Luck of the Draw” human photo-booth. Almost 60 portraits were penned in the afternoon of the event. Sitters posed and then collected a carbon copy of their portrait outside the booth – without ever seeing the artist behind-the-scenes!
