As part of Deco Publique’s wonderful Street pARTy event, marking the installation of a series of new, large-scale public artworks on Victoria Street in Morecambe Town Centre – I designed the Victoria Street Press newspaper.
At the event, I ran a workshop – Hold Onto Your Hats! – folding the newspapers into wearable hats.
With a nod to Morecambe’s print heritage, I designed a newspaper inspired by stories from Morecambe’s local weekly paper, The Visitor, which was produced on Victoria Street for over 100 years.
Victoria Street Press was part of a regeneration project on Victoria Street, Morecambe – to improve the public space for residents and visitors. Artists from Morecambe, London, Manchester, Kendal and Sheffield created works that told stories of Morecambe’s heritage.
The Victoria Street Press project, and Street pARTy were initiated and produced by Deco Publique with funding from the Morecambe Portas Pilot Town Team and Arts Council England.
